International Coaching Week 2021 – Defying Challenging Times
International Coaching Week (ICW) is an annual weeklong global celebration of the power and impact of professional coaching.
The ICF Australasia Chapter flagship ICW2021 event, Why Coaching? A powerful Way to Defy Challenging Times brought together four experienced and successful organisational leaders from Cisco, Fronterra, BHP and Māori Women’s Development Inc, to share their reasons for and experiences of establishing and coordinating coaching programs within their organisations.
New Zealand Northern’s main ICW event Coaching in Organisations targeted the business community. Buyers of coaching were engaged to share their coaching experience, how they have used coaching in their career and life and what impact was achieved in their organisations through implementing coaching programmes. It was a very well attended event, creating an opportunity to demystify coaching. Speakers shared good organisation practices encouraging buyers of coaching in organisations.
Between May 17-23 a variety of additional webinars, conferences, educational workshops, panel discussions, coaching demonstrations, pro bono sessions and social activities were organized by the ICF Australasia Chapter and its branches:
- Anxiety, Identity and Cultural Bias in the Coaching Context
- Super-Charging Client Acquisition through a Deep Relational Approach
- Coaching Demonstration by experienced and credentialed ICF coaches
- Pro Bono Coaching Conversations
- Value and impact of Coaching in Organisations
- Leading Through Change
- World Voices – Coaching in a cross-cultural context with a diverse cultural background
- Coaching research – coaching in public sector, and coaching in high performance and performance conversations
- Coaching in organisations – highlighting buyers voices
- Coaches social gatherings
Pro-bono Coaching Initiatives
The number and variety of pro-bono programs across New Zealand and Australia highlights the generosity of the ICF Australasia community of coaches.
ICF Australasia Southern States Branch
Based on the goals and principles of the ICF Ignite Program “ICF Ignite Engaging Humanity in Education” the ICF Australia Southern States Branch to organised a pro bono coaching project with an Educational Institution (Victoria University). ICF coaches worked alongside 7 women in the University’s Senior Leadership Group or on senior staff contracts.
ICF Australasia New Zealand Southern and New Zealand Northern & Central Branches
The New Zealand branches worked together on their pro-bono program with the goal of helping and supporting 5 charities (World Vision, KidsCan, Starship, Springboard and St John) to be able to coach leadership and talent, which otherwise would be cost prohibitive.
ICF Australasia Queensland Branch
The Queensland Branch’s University of Queensland pro bono program is delivered twice a year, aligned with the university’s semesters. Its main objective is to support final year students from the Faculty of Business Economics & Law, as they prepare for transition into the workforce.
ICF Australasia Western Australia Branch
The WA Branch delivered the Western Australian Aboriginal Leadership Institute Pro Bono Coaching Program. The WA Pro Bono team worked with WAALI on supporting two leadership programs through coaching: the Yorga Djenna Bidi Aboriginal Women’s Leadership Program, and for the first time in 2021 also an Emerging Leaders program for young people (aged around 18-25).
ICF Australasia New South Wales Branch
The NSW branch ran an Ignite program with United Way, providing pro bono coaching to this global charity.
ICF Australasia ACT Branch
The ACT Branch’s annual Pro Bono coaching program matches ICF coaches with not-for-profit and charitable organisations in the Canberra region. For the second year we extended the program to bushfire affected areas of the NSW South Coast with the goal to support staff working in the sector and to build personal and organisational resilience and leadership capacity through coaching.
