Coach Week Australasia Is Set to Inspire Resilience

International Coach Federation Australasia (ICFA) CoachWeek is an annual weeklong celebration of the coaching profession. This year to be held during the week 24 to 29 May.

Originally founded in 1999 by ICF member Jerri N. Udelson, MCC, CoachWeek is a designated time each year for coaches and clients to educate the general public about the value of working with a professional coach and to acknowledge the results and progress made through the coaching process.

During this extended commemoration, coaches around the world offer a variety of activities and pro bono services in their local communities to share what coaching has the ability to do.

"This week is the perfect time for coaches to get out in their communities and show people what coaching is and how it can benefit their lives. Coaching is proven to help people attain their personal and professional goals and those who use it can expect to see a solid return on their investment."

10 local areas around Australia and New Zealand will be holding events and activities to celebrate Coach Week commencing 24 May 2010.

How to Participate

Coaches from around the world choose to participate in Coach Week through a number of activities and pro bono coaching opportunities. The ideas are endless and are only limited by your imagination!

Starting Point

The ICF has gathered a list of various activities coaches have used in the past to celebrate and promote the coaching profession. Feel free to use or borrow from these ideas; have them serve as your starting point to creating your own unique ways of celebrating Coach Week.

  • Coaching Column: Offer to write a complimentary coaching column for your local newspaper, business journal, local association or company newsletter on a topic of interest to individuals, business owners or corporate employees.
  • "Top 10" Reading List: Put together a "Must Read" selection of great reference books for personal and/or business client use. Contact your local library, bookstore such as Dymocks or Borders, and/or your local Chamber of Commerce and ask that this list be publicised in their newsletter with your attribution in honour of Coach Week.
  • Press Release for Coaching College Students: Provide a public service at your local college or university by offering to coach college seniors to assist them in making an important after-graduation decision about their future careers. Work through department heads, the student activity office, the women's centre and/or the career development office.
  • Letter to Companies or Organisations Volunteering Coaching: Utilise your list of contacts at organisations and businesses to write a letter offering to provide complimentary coaching to five of their superstars to assist them in honing their leadership skills.
  • Letter to Chamber of Commerce, Service Organisation or Trade Associations Offering to Conduct a Seminar or Workshop: Contact local organisations to offer a complimentary seminar or workshop on a topic that would be of specific value to their members.
  • Lead a Book Discussion Group on a National Bestseller: Contact your local library or bookstore to offer a complimentary book discussion session around three tenets of your favourite best selling coaching skill book.
  • Letter Offering a Professional Trade/Barter of Services: In an effort to educate members of the community about the value of coaching, write a letter to professionals in a targeted profession and offer a trade of services for the month of February. Some ideas for bartering of services may include: massage therapists, physical trainers, financial planners, accountants or bookkeepers, virtual assistants, professional organisers, child care professionals, etc.
  • Letter to Radio Show Requesting Guest Appearance: Contact your local radio stations that have regular call-in programs and present the idea of an interview with you in honour of Coach Week, which may include a call-in segment where individuals call in for coaching.
  • Press Release to Promote Coach Week Activities: Regardless of the activity or activities you choose to plan and organise in honour of Coach Week, send a press release to your area's local media to promote your event or activity. A sample press release and media advisory are available for download in the Members section of www.coachfederation.org.
